Laboratory biosafety level refers to the different levels divided according to different organisms in the experimental environment, which are divided into four levels. Level 1 biosafety laboratory causes less harm to human body and environment. Level 2 biosafety laboratory has potential pathogenic factors, which will not cause serious harm to human body and environment (have effective prevention and treatment measures). Level 3 biosafety laboratory has highly dangerous pathogenic factors, which will cause serious harm to human body and environment (have effective prevention and treatment measures). Level 4 biosafety has highly dangerous pathogenic factors, and there are unknown transmission routes, which cause serious harm to human body and environment and there are no effective prevention and treatment measures.

Today I will introduce some design elements of level 3 biosafety laboratory. First you should pay attention to the selection of safety equipment and personal protection tools. Level 2 or above biosafety cabinets must be installed in the laboratory. When operating hazardous raw materials, they must be carried out in a biosafety cabinet, and the operator must wear protective clothing. If the hazardous raw materials are gas, respiratory protection devices should be used. Staff must wear protective clothing before entering the laboratory and take it off when leaving the laboratory. Protective clothing must be disinfected and cleaned if it is reused. Disposable work clothes and gloves must be disinfected before being discarded. The laboratory must be equipped with emergency medicines and disinfectants.

Secondly, attention should be paid to the selection of construction site and structural layout. The laboratory should not be built in the same building as public housing. If it cannot be avoided, an isolation area must be established. Buffer room should be set up between the core laboratory and other areas. The buffer room usually has two electric interlocking doors. The placement of the biological safety cabinet should avoid being on the route of personnel and away from the entrance and exit.The wall panels and ceilings of the entire laboratory should be made of smooth, corrosion-resistant, waterproof and fireproof materials, and the panel joints should be strictly sealed. Perform a sealing test before putting it into use. The laboratory doors should be automatic sliding doors, which do not require staff to open the doors manually to effectively prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses. All windows must be sealed, and hollow double-layer glass is recommended. The floor should be flat but non-slip and anti-static. Cement or brick floors cannot be used.
