In clean rooms, return air louvers play a very important role.
1. Air circulation
1.1 Guiding return air
The air circulation in the clean room is a crucial step. Return air louvers are mainly used to guide indoor air back to the return air ducts of the air conditioning system. It collects air from different areas of the room in an orderly manner, ensuring that the air circulates along the designed path. For example, in semiconductor manufacturing cleanrooms, the air around production equipment needs to be collected through return air louvers and promptly sent back to the air conditioning system for processing to ensure stable airflow organization and avoid airflow disturbances.
1.2 Air Balance
Return air louvers help balance the return air flow in various areas of the clean room. Different production processes or equipment layouts may result in different return air requirements for different locations in the clean room. By designing the size, shape, and position of the return air louvers reasonably, the return air resistance of each area can be adjusted, allowing air to flow back evenly from each area. Just like in a pharmaceutical cleanroom, the return air requirements for the allocation area and the filling area may be different. The return air louvers can be adjusted according to the actual situation to ensure appropriate return air flow in both areas, thereby maintaining pressure balance and air quality throughout the clean room.
2. Auxiliary air filtration
2.1 Protection of Subsequent Equipment
The return air baffle can be used as a preliminary air filtration device to intercept some larger impurity particles. Although the main filtration work in the clean room is completed by high-efficiency filters and other equipment, the return air louvers can prevent large particles such as paper scraps and fibers from entering the return air duct before the air returns to the air conditioning system. If these impurities enter the return air duct, they may damage the fans, heat exchangers, and other equipment in the air conditioning system, or accumulate in the duct, affecting the return air efficiency. For example, in the cleanroom for electronic device assembly, some fibers may detach from employees' work clothes, and the return air louvers can first intercept these fibers, reducing their harm to the subsequent return air system.
2.2 Extending the service life of filters
Because the return air louvers can pre filter out some impurities, it helps to reduce the burden on downstream filters. In the clean room air circulation system, the filter is a key component to ensure air quality. By reducing the mass of large particles entering the downstream filter, the return air louvers can extend the service life of the filter to a certain extent and reduce the operating costs of the clean room. For example, HEPA filters are expensive for optical lens production cleanrooms that require high cleanliness. The pre filtering effect of the return air louvers can eliminate the need for frequent replacement of high-efficiency filters, thereby saving costs.
