Description
Self-drilling screws, also known as self-tapping screws, are a special fastener. It combines the functions of a drill bit and a screw, and when screwed in is able to drill itself into the material and create threads without the need for pre-drilling or tapping. This makes the installation process faster and easier, especially where quick assembly is required.
The end of the drill screw has a design similar to a drill bit and has cutting edges to cut into the material. As the screw is rotated into the material, its threaded portion follows this newly formed hole and creates a matching internal thread in it, holding the screw firmly in place. This type of screw is ideal for metal, wood and some other harder materials.
